Your Fieldwork Experience in Jamaica

Participants in the Psychedelics & Consciousness Studies MA program at the University of Ottawa are invited to take part in a unique fieldwork course. Set in the beautiful Negril, Jamaica, this retreat offers an immersive experience that extends beyond traditional learning. It’s an opportunity to deeply explore the practice of psychedelic therapy and gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting.

    This retreat was life changing. I've segmented this review into three sections: The Team, The Place, and The Medicine.

The Team: Vee, Kevin, Sita, Abi, and Ari are an amazing and supportive team - they eased any concerns I had and were patient with my anxieties around plant medicine. The groups are kept small which meant there was always someone available for support if I needed it. This ratio contributed to deeper connections with the team facilitators as well as among the group participants.

The Place: The retreat is beautiful with both ocean and forest views. I felt connected to the surrounding nature which proved to be an important part of my own healing process. I loved that the yoga and breathwork sessions were held outside and next to the ocean. There is a calmness in the environment that is particularly soothing, especially if you come from a big city like I do.

The Medicine: Plant medicine has awakened me to a new way of living, with significantly reduced depression and anxiety, and on a higher vibration. I wish this had been available to me decades ago. I learned that plant medicine is deserving of our upmost respect and humility – it will guide you to answers but it is also hard work with beautiful rewards.

One difference between One Retreats and the other plant medicine retreats I researched; Indigenous practices pertaining to plant medicine are baked into the entire experience, and I left with a newfound respect for non-traditional approaches to mental health and for the plant itself. Other retreats seemed sanitized and disconnected from the indigenous roots of plant medicine. I understand that I am still a tourist but somehow at One Retreats I did not feel that way.

I am truly grateful to One Retreats and the wonderful connections I made there. I am looking forward to my next visit – I don’t think one experience there was enough.

    After experiencing many retreats this one is over and above by a thousand what I expected and was used to.

Surrounded by plenty of humming birds, rainforest and the Caribbean Sea you can find yourself enjoying the traditional Jamaican food, a cozy accomodation, beautiful and detail-loving buildings,
personal consulting and a perfectly coordinated team of loving, competent and comprehensive characters.

The cleaning and kitchen staff makes you feel home and is supportive in any way you can imagine.

Everyone here lives to make your journey for you as comfortable and as memorable as possible. A place to ground yourself, while a smile, a hug or a coconut wait around every corner for you.

I had been to Jamaica many times in the past, and knew it was truly a paradise island. I wanted to go back to Negril, but being a solo traveler, I also wanted find some connection with the people I would meet there. ONE Retreats served this purpose perfectly. The retreat guests became an instant family-like social group, while the retreat staff saw to all our needs. The ONE Retreats team provided a perfect environment and excellent guidance during each journey. For me the journeys were profound, and healing to a large degree because of the knowledgeable and caring support provided by the team. Between the journey days, the planned activities were relevant, useful and fun. I stayed in Jamaica several days after the retreat ended, which allowed me to contemplate and integrate the retreat experiences while they were fresh, without the inevitable distractions waiting back home. What a beautiful experience! The staff and the people I met were amazing! Vee and Kevin have put their heart and souls into running this psilocybin retreat.
